As a caregiver we can easily overlook our own health including our mental health. This class will be an opportunity to learn more about how our mental health can impact our caregiving journey.

Our guest speakers from the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission will be joining us to help seniors ages 60 and older learn how to use their smartphones, computers and tablets. An opportunity to learn how to identify spam calls, send text messages and make important calls using your cell phone.

This class is designed to help participants learn to view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk and promote exercise to increase strength and balance.

Independence at Home will present a combination of gentle movements, breathing and tips on mindfulness, to help participants release tension and reconnect with their bodies. No experience required—just wear comfortable clothing and bring an open mind for relaxation and renewal.

Caring for a loved one can sometimes create unforeseen situations that place stress on family relationships. These pressures may cause tension to build over time and lead to family conflict. In this class, we will discuss common sources of family conflict and share practical tips.

Getting help in the home can be a complicated task, creating many questions. What is covered under medical insurance and how do we access it? How much does it cost? Are staff background checked and trained? If the person is not a fit can we change?

We are honored to have A-Plus join us to discuss placement. They will be answering questions such as: When should I consider or start planning for my loved one’s placement? How do I prepare for this next step, and what options are available for my loved one? Does insurance cover placement?

We will be joined by Meghan Velasquez, Executive Director of VCRC. Her past experience working with people who have dementia as the Program Manager of the OASIS Adult Day program leads to providing an understanding of common dementia-related behaviors and effective communication strategies.
